Ultra Mini Skirts
Is it fashion or are they just skinny? That’s the question that popped into my head whenever Italian, high fashion brand, Miu Miu, sent several of its models down the runway in maximum 8” skirts this past Milan fashion week. Reminiscent of the iconic 2000s socialite, Paris Hilton, the ultra mini skirt is just one the y2k trends that is certainly making a comeback this coming season. What remains to be known is whether the widespread body shaming which accompanied the era will also be making a comeback for Spring/Summer 2022.
Low-Rise Baggy Jeans
In 2021, Gen-Z officially declared skinny jeans to be out. Instead, the generation favors denim styles that fit on the loser side, gravitating towards mom jeans, flares, and skater jeans. However, in the same spirit of y2k nostalgia, gen-z also will be ditching high rise jeans after so many years of skinny, high waisted pants dominating the market. If you would have asked me three years ago if low-rise would ever be in style again, I would have said absolutely not. Now, after witnessing how quickly myself and others ditched our skinny jeans, I have a different response.
Lime Green
Sage Green was arguably the most on-trend color of 2021 in not only fashion, but also in graphic and interior design. This isn’t surprising as the color has a soothing nature that many people gravitated towards in the middle of a pandemic. The color will be taking a bolder approach in 2022 as people will be “revenge dressing” to make up for the lost time they had to dress up due to COVID-19 lockdowns and protocols.
Chunky, Layered Necklaces
The same excess and melodrama which characterizes revenge dressing will also be inspiring next year’s accessory trends. While 2021 saw chunky chains break into the mainstream, 2022 will welcome and style necklaces of all kinds together from chains, pearls, beads, all the way to diamonds.
